MISO develops an autonomous, multi-format in-situ observation platform to accurately detect and quantify CO₂ and methane concentrations in remote permafrost and wetland areas. The platform combines stationary towers, automated gas chambers, and drone-mounted sensors, powered by geothermal devices and connected via cloud-based IoT technology.

Federico Dallo is Project Partner Leader, contributing expertise in wireless sensor network design and deployment for atmospheric monitoring in remote environments.

Coordinator: NILU (Norway) | Partners: six organisations across Europe

Particular Matter

Founder | 2021 – present

Particular Matter is an open initiative championing the right to breathe clean air. It combines low-cost sensor networks and artificial intelligence to monitor and improve indoor environmental quality across residential, institutional, and research settings.

The project grew out of the PIONEER Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship (GA 844526) and currently contributes to the Horizon Europe HealthRiskAdapt project (GA 101157458).

PIONEER

Horizon 2020 | MSCA-IF GA 844526 | Nov 2020 – Mar 2024 | €251K

PIONEER established a low-cost wireless sensor network to study transboundary atmospheric transport phenomena, with a focus on ozone monitoring. The network crossed the Alps along the 12th east meridian (Munich–Venice trail), providing high spatial resolution data for climate modelling in remote areas where conventional monitoring infrastructure is absent.

Federico Dallo was the Principal Investigator (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow), based at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) with a secondment at the University of California, Berkeley.
